The rules behind the dates

Who has abandoned DST

Most of the world never uses DST — China, India, Japan and most of Africa and the Middle East stay on one offset year-round. Russia, Turkey and Brazil have scrapped it entirely; Turkey stays on UTC+3 permanently, which is why Istanbul shares its clock with Riyadh year-round. In the US, Hawaii and most of Arizona skip the change, while the Sunshine Protection Act — a proposal to make DST permanent — has repeatedly stalled in Congress.

Every city page on this site shows the current UTC offset and DST status live — for example New York, London, Berlin and Sydney — so you can watch the offsets shift the night the clocks change.
