Q: How are prayer times calculated?

Prayer times are computed astronomically from each city's coordinates: Fajr and Isha from the sun's angle below the horizon, Dhuhr from solar noon, Asr from shadow length, and Maghrib from sunset. The angles differ by calculation method (Umm al-Qura, MWL, ISNA and others).

Q: Why do prayer times differ between websites?

Websites use different calculation methods and conventions. For example, Umm al-Qura (Saudi Arabia) places Isha 90 minutes after Maghrib, while MWL uses a 17° sun angle. Asr may follow the standard or Hanafi school. This site applies the conventional method for each country.

Times are computed from the sun's position relative to each city's coordinates: Fajr and Isha correspond to the sun a set number of degrees below the horizon, Dhuhr to solar noon, Asr to shadow length, and Maghrib to sunset. Different regions use different angle conventions — we apply each country's conventional method.

Why do prayer times differ between websites?

Because of different calculation methods (Umm al-Qura vs MWL vs ISNA and others), different Asr conventions, and rounding. Differences of a minute or two are normal; larger gaps usually mean a different method was applied.

Do you show Hanafi Asr times?

Cities in South Asian countries (Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan) default to the Hanafi Asr convention, matching local mosque practice. Other cities use the standard convention.
